The workshop in detail

  • 2d
  • 2 to 4 participants
  • 15 years min.
  • Step through the doors of Kai's woodworking workshop and make something unique!

In this two-days (consecutive) workshop, you'll learn how to make your own three-legged, wedged tenon stool from solid hardwood.

This immersion will combine hand and power tools. You will learn the basics of wood technology, the processes of making tenon joints, using a router to shape the top of the stool.

Gradually, your creation will take shape until you sand your stool to prepare it for gluing. Kai will also advise you on possible finishes that you can apply at home.

The passionate Kai will accompany you all along, whether you are a beginner or an expert.

At the end of the workshop, you will leave with your own solid wood stool, entirely made by you.

Please note this workshop will take two days in a row.

Please take you lunch with you and enjoy lunching with Kai while having a nice chat.

    Meet Kai

    Woodworker

Kai is originally from Ulm, Germany. She has been working in the art sector for a long time. Then found her best self in woodworking.

She is the founder and maker behind "Form + Function". Kai builds furniture that dovetails form, function and fine craftsmanship. She appreciates the unique character of each piece of wood and works with the material to achieve harmonious designs.

Kai graduated in 2017 from The Building Crafts College in London with a Fine Furniture Making degree and certificates in Level 2 Bench Joinery and Wood Machining.

She was awarded the Livery Company Prize from the Carpenters’ Company (London) presented by Princess Anne, in 2017. Kai thrives on being part of a community of like-minded makers, where she can continually learn and be inspired.

The workshops take place at the 'Vakvrouwen Collective', a group of female furniture makers.
