The workshop in detail

  • Located at Rachel Cox's modern studio, this workshop is an engaging introduction to the art of pottery. Over the course of 2 hours, participants will be introduced to the essential techniques of throwing on the potter's wheel, including the processes of wedging, centring and shaping clay.

    Under the careful instruction and demonstration by Rachel, attendees will crafting a bowl, cup and pourer. The workshop's emphasis on an immersive learning environment ensures that participants gain a genuine understanding of pottery in a creative and supportive setting.

    After shaping their creations, participants will select from an array of the studio's glazes to add a personal touch to their creations. These pieces will undergo two firings in an electric kiln at a temperature of 1260 degrees, ensuring the durability and finish of the works. Completed items will be available for collection from the studio after three weeks or can be delivered to participants' doors for a Ā£6.00.

    The studio boasts the latest in ceramic tools and equipment, ensuring a high-quality experience. Small group sizes, limited to two students, allow for an intimate learning atmosphere with direct oversight and engagement with the instructor. Each participant will have access to various clays, tools and glazes and aprons are provided to ensure a comfortable session.

    This workshop not only offers the chance to learn a new skill but also to create a personal set of creations that are both functional and artistically satisfying.

    Meet Rachel Cox Ceramics

    Ceramicist

    Rachel Cox has both a First Class Degree in Ceramics and a Masters in Ceramics

    from the Royal College Art. She is a qualified teacher with extensive experience

    having taught and managed ceramics departments in various Arts Colleges across

    London. Rachel offers ceramics workshops in her fully equipped studio in

    Wandsworth, South West London. Classes are rooted in uncovering and exploring

    creativity through the expression of clay, where small group sizes ensure in-depth

    student focus.

    Rachel Cox is a practicing studio ceramicist exhibiting her work through galleries

    nationally and in Europe. Colour and tactility are central to her wheel-thrown work,

    where simple forms and textural surfaces intimately explore the emotional

    connection between the ceramic material and its audience. With almost two decades

    of working in the industry, Rachel has a deep knowledge of ceramic techniques and

    practices.

    Absolutely loved it! Niamh was amazing, we had such a fun afternoon getting to know her and she did a great job of teaching us what to do then making us feel independent on the wheel. We love our pieces too.

    Would definitely recommend. Had a really fun afternoon with my daughter. Very good value for money, especially as the class size is only 2 students so we got all the attention and help which we needed. Rachel.was a great teacher and a lovely person
