In the span of a two-hour workshop, Sofia invites participants to experience the craft of spinning yarn on a drop spindle.
Participants will be guided through the process of transforming sheep's wool into spun yarn, employing one of the earliest tools known to humankind.
The workshop emphasises the proficiency of handling different types of wool, each with its unique properties and preparation needs. The instructor will lead a thorough exploration of techniques to prepare the wool fibres for spinning, ensuring each attendee grasps the foundational skills essential to the craft.
Attendees will gain practical experience in preparing the fibres by carding them, spinning a single thread and further, the art of plying, which combines spun threads to create strong, stable and beautiful yarn.
Each participant will leave the class not just enriched with knowledge but also with a tangible memento of their newfound skill: a sample of their hand-spun yarn.
