  • Up to 4 people for a privatization
  • This workshop runs over a full weekend, on consecutive Saturdays and Sundays.

Step into the world of millinery with Michela's two-day workshop, where you'll learn the art of hat-making and create your own felt hat from scratch.

On the first day, Michela will introduce herself and her brand, Laughter in the rain, setting the stage for a creative and inspiring experience. You'll dive into the world of felt, exploring different types and learning about stiffening techniques and products. Next, you'll discover how to measure your head and choose the perfect block type for your hat, whether it's a trilby, boater, beret or percher/cocktail hat. Using traditional millinery techniques, you'll block the hats so they can take shape overnight. With pre-prepared felts in a range of colors, you'll have the freedom to choose the perfect shade for your creation.

On the second day, it's time to bring your hat to life. You'll steam and brush your felt, carefully remove it from the block and trim it to perfection. Michela will guide you through the process of shaping and hand stitching the headband, as well as hand stitching the wire, imparting valuable knowledge about its importance. You'll then choose between a brim binding or a rolled hem / raw edge brim finish to add the finishing touches to your masterpiece. With Michela's expertise, you'll explore different trimming methods using felt scraps, fabric or ribbon, before steaming and brushing your hat one last time. Finally, you'll take home your finished hat!

Join Michela and get ready to unleash your inner designer and create a timeless piece that reflects your unique style and personality.

    Wecandoo - Meet Michela

    Meet Michela

    Milliner

Originally from Italy, Michela pursued her passion for fashion design by studying in both Italy and the UK. In 2015, she made the bold decision to relocate to London.

During her time in the UK, Michela had the incredible opportunity to study under the guidance of esteemed milliner Rose Cory MBE, honing her skills and refining her craft. With her new-found expertise, Michela embarked on a journey of collaboration with some of the biggest names in fashion, including Misa Harada, Mackintosh and Lock & Co. Her exceptional talent caught the attention of celebrities and even members of the British Royal Family.

With a decade of experience under her belt, Michela decided to take her passion to the next level by launching her own handmade fashion label, "Laughter in the rain". Through a successful Kickstarter campaign, she garnered support for her vision of combining style with sustainability. Inspired by her multicultural background and diverse influences, Michela's designs are a true reflection of her unique perspective and innovative approach to fashion.

From elegant hats to stunning gowns, Michela's creations are characterised by impeccable craftsmanship and timeless elegance. With 'Laughter in the rain', she invites you to explore a world where fashion meets sustainability, and where each piece tells a story of creativity, dedication and passion.
