Meet Nadia at TLZ Movement Clothes

    Seamstress

Welcome to the world of Nadia Piechestein, a London-based fashion designer who is revolutionising the industry with her sustainable approach and passion for upcycling. With a focus on longevity and creativity, Nadia reimagines traditional mending techniques to create contemporary fine fashion that is both environmentally conscious and stylish.

Originally from Argentina, Nadia launched one of the country's first ethical fashion brands called TLZ Movement Clothes. Her unique sustainable approach combines slow fashion techniques with zero-stock and zero-waste production methods. In her latest collection, she showcases the artistry of exquisite embroidery combined with hand-woven fabrics, collaborating with local makers to bring her vision to life. Nadia has recently introduced a game-changing invention: 'iron-on patches' designed to prevent clothes from going to waste. These ethically produced patches, made in collaboration with cotton farmers in India, allow you to effortlessly incorporate beautiful textiles into any garment using just an iron. Handwoven khadi cotton, created in collaboration with Khadi London CIC, adds a touch of artistry to each piece.

Nadia's journey as a designer began at the age of 14, inspired by her mother and grandmother's sewing skills. She studied fashion in Buenos Aires and went on to found one of Argentina's pioneering ethical fashion brands. Initially focusing on sustainably sourced cotton, Nadia also collaborated with former prisoners, providing them with an opportunity for reintegration into society and the workforce. After moving to the UK, her focus shifted towards upcycling existing garments, prioritising the repurposing of deadstock fabric to minimise waste.

Nadia's talent and commitment have earned her recognition in the fashion world. Her work has been exhibited at prestigious events such as London Fashion Week 2022, The Lab E20, and Fashion District Hub during the pre-launch of The Reclaimery platform. She is also a regular exhibitor at The Festival of Natural Fibres and London Craft Week.

Step into Nadia's studio and you'll find yourself in a beautiful old ship repair warehouse transformed into an amazing creative space. The atmosphere is filled with passion and attention to detail, reflecting Nadia's dedication to her craft.

Nadia's approach is rooted in sustainability, using recycled and ethically sourced fabrics to create her unique designs. She has a deep desire to share her expertise and teach others the art of altering and mending clothes. By imparting these skills, Nadia aims to inspire more people to embrace reusing and reducing waste in the fashion industry.
