The workshop in detail

  • 2h
  • 4 to 15 participants

  • Over the span of two hours, Malou offers a workshop that delves into the delicate world of terrarium creation. The session opens with an introduction to the origins and science of terrariums, offering participants an understanding of the ecosystems within and how to nurture them.

Participants will be guided meticulously through the process of constructing their own terrariums, emphasising the techniques of landscaping within the glass to create contours and perspectives akin to natural scenery. Each attendee will be provided with a sizeable glass jar and cork to house their ecosystem, alongside robust terrarium plants, an assortment of pebbles, rich compost, activated charcoal, and verdant moss to foster growth.

In addition to the foundational materials, specialised terrarium tools, brushes, and a bottle brush are at the participants’ disposal throughout the workshop, ensuring precise and delicate work. A comprehensive care guide will also be provided.

Participants will leave with their self-made terrarium, a lush microcosm poised to thrive under their watchful care.

    Meet Studio Wüst

    Floral Designer

Malou's journey through the creative landscape began at the Amsterdam Fashion Institute, where she honed her skills in Fashion and Branding.

Despite the rigour of academic study, she found herself yearning for a more hands-on approach to creation, a yearning rooted in her childhood experiences. Immersed in nature from a young age by her parents, Malou developed a profound connection to the environment that would later become integral to her craft.

Her entry into the world of terrariums was as organic as the ecosystems she creates— a spontaneous venture about ten years ago that quickly captured the attention and hearts of those around her. What started as an individual project soon transitioned to a commercial pursuit as demand for her terrariums soared. Recognising her talent, a local plant shop not only stocked her creations but also hosted her for several years as she led workshops, sharing her expertise and passion for plant life with others.

This evolution of her craft and knowledge culminated in the inception of Studio Wüst, where Malou channels her deep-seated reverence for biophilic design into every piece she creates. The studio, nestled in the vibrant city of Amsterdam, serves as a hub of innovation and creativity where Malou works with both plants and textile materials. Her dedication to her craft is evident in the functional pieces and art installations that bear her signature blend of technical skill and a heartfelt commitment to bringing the essence of the outdoors into everyday living spaces.

Wat een leuke workshop! Malou wist heel veel en enthousiast te vertellen, en het resultaat was top. Precies mooi formaat terrarium, en ook prima te doen in de tijd die ervoor stond.
