In this workshop, Matty guides participants through the process of skateboard creation using Canadian maple ply.
The session begins with the application of adhesive to seven layers of premium Canadian maple ply, carefully aligning them to set the foundation of the deck.
The layers are then placed in a hydraulic press, which is an essential step to ensure durability and the correct concave shape.Â
After pressing comes shape customisation with the cutting of the deck, followed by carving to refine the profile and edges.
Once the shape is ready, participants will drill the truck holes for the wheels to be attached.Â
There is also an opportunity to engrave personalised artwork onto the deck to really personalise the board. If you have any desired designs please get in touch with Matty via email prior to the workshop so he can prepare!
The final touch is the application of varnish, sealing the artwork and safeguarding the wood, resulting in a glossy, professional finish.
Participants leave not only with the practical knowledge of deck-building but also with their very own skateboard, a tangible manifestation of their creativity and effort, ready to glide through the streets or be mounted as a piece of personal art.
