Throughout this workshop, you'll be guided through the fascinating art of screen printing.
Sarah, your experienced host, will introduce you to the world of print design and set the stage for an exciting day ahead. She'll share insights about her studio, creating a warm and inspiring atmosphere.
First thing, it's time to prepare your screen. You will clean and condition it, ready for the emulsion covering which will allow your drawing to be translated onto the surface.
Once your newly coated screen is drying, it's time to draw your design on paper. You can go simple with mark-making and geometric shapes, or come prepared with a sketch you would like to translate onto the screen. You are encouraged to try all ideas here, it's a chance to find your unique style! In the screen printing process, you create colour and depth through printing separate layers. You can print up to 3 colours during this workshop with Sarah's help, it's a great opportunity to delve into the process.
Once a decision has been made, it's time to re-draw your final design onto tracing paper, ready to be 'exposed' onto the screen. Your positive artwork is placed between the machine's light source and the screen, and through the light-sensitive emulsion, your design is transferred.
During your lunch break, you can explore the culinary delights that Brockley has to offer. It's the perfect opportunity to recharge and socialise with fellow participants.
Now for the really fun part of experimenting with your screen! You will learn how to make up your coloured print binders from Sarah's huge array of pigments. Then you can try the printing yourself, layering up different colours. You can start with printing on paper and eventually, you will progress onto Sarah's array of items available; t-shirts, tote bags and fabrics. You can choose your item you would like to print on and take home.
As the workshop concludes, you'll leave with not only a wealth of new knowledge but also a beautifully designed and hand-printed item —a tangible expression of your artistic journey and a unique addition to your wardrobe or home!

Best teacher and guide you could ask for. I've never done this art skill before but I would definitely do this class all over again. Was really fun and opened my eyes to how much of a labour of love multi colour screen printing is and how fantastic your results can be. My classmates each did so well making incredible and individual designs. Was so great to do something different and creative for a day *****

I absolutely loved Sarah’s screen printing workshop. I specifically wanted to do a print making class where you could use multiple colours, as most online were only offered in black and white! Sarah let us choose any colours we wanted, and we could do up to four layers on our screens, creating great depth to our designs. I love my new hand printed tote bag and I’m wearing it around with pride! Now I’m choosing which workshop to do next…! Also highly reccomend Good as Gold for a delicious lunch.
