This workshop will take you on a journey into the world of leatherwork.
The session begins with an introduction to Yusuf and the story behind YUSSICO. You will then delve into a discussion about the history of leather and its sustainability, setting the stage for your creative experience.
Safety is paramount, so Yusuf will demonstrate the correct use of tools before you get started. Next, you'll choose your leather and patterns, selecting the materials that will bring your creations to life. The hands-on process begins with cutting the leather pieces, a step known as 'clicking'. Next, you'll punch holes in the edges, a technique called 'hammering', which prepares the pieces for sewing.
To create fine edges, the leather is beveled and then the edges are buffed using traditional methods to give a polished finish. You'll then seal the leather with a professional heated tool, which enhances both durability and aesthetics. For a personal touch, you'll have the opportunity to add initials using a foil technique.
Finally, you'll attach high quality British brass fittings to your finished items. At the end of the workshop, you'll take home your beautifully crafted leather accessories, created under Yusuf's expert guidance.

Trained as a lawyer at the prestigious London School of Economics, Yusuf's creative flair emerged through various extra-curricular activities during his studies. An avid workshop-goer, he discovered a passion for working with natural materials. A chance weekend workshop in the Cotswolds introduced Yusuf to the world of traditional British leather craftsmanship. This experience sparked a quest that took him around the world to learn from the best, before returning home to perfect his skills in his home studio.
What began as a hobby became a full time career when Yusuf moved to his current studio at Cockpit Arts Deptford. Since then his work has gained considerable recognition, having been exhibited at the Walsall Leather Museum and featured in Crafts Magazine. His expertise has attracted high profile clients such as actor John Malkovich and magician Drummond Money-Coutts, and he has collaborated with high profile brands such as eBay and Jo Malone.
From initial sketch to final stitch, each piece is meticulously designed and crafted in-house, using the finest leather cuts and a unique blend of contemporary and traditional techniques. His workshops offer a unique opportunity to learn from a master craftsman and provide an insight into the meticulous process and skill involved in creating leather items.
