In this private class, Violaine will welcome you to her studio and introduce herself and her background.
After a demonstration of how to throw a bowl on a potter's wheel, it's your turn. With Violaine's help, you'll have the chance to create your own piece of pottery, learning how to shape a lump of clay into a vessel. Violaine will guide you through each stage and break the process down into clear and manageable steps.
Choose which one of your creations you would like to be fired (an additional pot can be fired for an extra £5).
If necessary, Violaine will give the bottom of your pot a basic trim, to eliminate any excess clay.
After the first firing, Violaine will glaze your pot with a transparent or white glaze, before firing again at high temperature. Then all you have to do is wait for your piece to be ready for collection, which usually takes 4-6 weeks.

The studio is easily accessible by public transport. For ‘on the go’ workshops, the workshop can be organised at the location of your choice within the artisan's approved radius.

Please bring an apron, clothes you don't mind getting dirty, and trim your nails as long nails can get in the way (also bring a hair tie for throwing sessions).
Due to limited storage space at the studio, Violaine can only keep your pots for an extra 4 weeks from the day your pot is available for collection. Uncollected pots will be donated to charity.

Ceramicist
Meet Violaine, a skilled ceramic artist based in Shoreditch. Violaine discovered her love for working with clay in 2018, after attending a wheel-throwing workshop. She practiced consistently, selling her creations, and fell in love with the craft. So much so that she left her career as a freelance graphic designer, to pursue her ceramics business full-time.
You can see influences from Violaine's French background in her chic ceramic style. While continuing to explore new techniques, recently focusing on sgraffito surface pattern, and slab work, this sophisticated and clean look runs through her collections.
With over three years of teaching experience at a London pottery school, Violaine now invites enthusiasts to visit her in her studio where you will be truly immersed in an artist's space. Whether you're a beginner or intermediate, Violaine offers a supportive environment to learn and create your own ceramics from scratch.
